Comprehensive Sexuality Education

In 2016, CHSI and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) worked with the Department of Education (DepEd) to test the readiness of schoolteachers and principals to implement a comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) program.

CHSI and the Social Weather Stations (SWS) surveyed approximately 1,000 teachers and principals. Based on the study’s findings, DepEd issued a Department Order 2018-0031, providing policy guidelines on implementing CSE in schools. CHSI supported the training of schoolteachers in Region 8 and provided references to help teachers run learning action cell (LAC) sessions on how to give age-appropriate content on CSE. Over 200,000 teachers are now ready to implement daily lesson plans on CSE in core subjects like Science and Health.
