Guided by robust mission and vision
The Center for Health Solutions & Innovations Philippines, Inc. (CHSI) is a non-profit organization composed of public health, communication, education, management and finance experts. We look at problems as challenges and turn them into opportunities to make a difference in the lives of Filipino families and communities.
About us
We have big ideas and innovations on:
01
- Social & behavior change communication
CHSI designs engaging, memorable, and sustainable communication solutions. We turned the fecal-oral transmission into a love story between a fly and a stump of poop in Goodbye, Dumi! Hello, Healthy!, a communication campaign about building sanitary toilets.
02
- Education & capacity building
CHSI believes in interactive, immersive, and replicable learning. We made talking about sex easy, safe, and acceptable in U4U, a sensory learning experience for Filipino teens in schools and communities.
03
- Research & systems strengthening
CHSI carries out surveys, focused group discussions, and key informant interviews. We learned from young girls why menstruation is a scary experience for many of them and helped them turn this around through age-appropriate #MeronAko lessons.
We have delivered results in...
Adolescent health
From 2013 to 2017, CHSI has worked with the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to bring critical messages on preventing teenage pregnancy to over two million Filipino teens in schools and communities. CPD adopted the campaign U4U as its main teen health program.
Comprehensive sexuality education
Since 2018, CHSI has helped the Department of Education (DepEd) to implement its CSE program, training over 200,000 teachers and principals. With UNFPA support, CHSI has trained teachers to integrate CSE concepts in various subjects in elementary and high schools.
Water & sanitation
Since 2014, CHSI has worked with the Department of Health (DOH) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support the Philippine Approach to Sustainable Station (PhATSS), implementing a communication campaign that helped increase the proportion of households with sanitary toilets from 35% to 90% in pilot communities.
Tuberculosis prevention
In 2023, CHSI received a grant from the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines to donate an ultra-portable chest X-ray machine to the Olongapo City. Today, the Olongapo City Health Office is giving free chest X-ray scans to members of the indigenous Aetas in upland villages.
HIV & AIDS
In 2019, CHSI worked with community-based groups to reach out to 3,300 young men-having-sex-with-men (MSMs) about safe sex. Our trained educators carried a handy backpack of health education tools when meeting with these young MSMs.
COVID-19
In 2020, CHSI worked with the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) to produce online videos about mental health during the COVID19 pandemic, gaining over 250,000 organic reach.
Child Health and Nutrition
In 2013, CHSI worked with Plan International to help lactating mothers in Davao del Sur practice exclusive breastfeeding. In 2019, CHSI designed a campaign idea called Unang Hakbang (The First Step) for UNICEF as a pitch for the First 1,000 Days program.
Maternal Health and Nutrition
In 2014, CHSI designed a concept for a mobile application for pregnant women, called Mobile Application for Motherhood Awareness (MAMA). The application was shortlisted for a USAID innovation award.
Family Planning
In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, CHSI worked with UNFPA to provide cash voucher assistance to 1,900 pregnant women and post-partum family planning education to their families in Cebu City.
