“Let our words take flight!” Two of CHSI’s communication programs soared at the 15th Philippine Quill Awards of the International Association of Business Communicators.
U4U is a communication program that provides Filipino teens with critical information to prevent teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Designed with and implemented by the Commission on Population (POPCOM), U4U won two Awards of Professional Excellence as a non-profit campaign and for the use of social media. Since its launch in 2014, U4U has gained over 500,000 Facebook followers, over 6 million YouTube views, and over 300,000 Twitter impressions. U4U was made possible with the funding support of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).
Goodbye, Dumi! Hello, Healthy! is a Communication for Development strategy that encourages families to abandon the practice of open defecation. Designed for the National Sustainable Sanitation Plan of the Department of Health, Goodbye Dumi won an Award of Merit as a non-profit campaign and an Award of Professional Excellence in communication research. With funding and technical support from the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Goodbye Dumi is now helping over 60 barangays in seven provinces achieve universal access to improved sanitation.
For these two communication programs, CHSI worked with PageOne Media in using social media, Guro sa Sining ng Bayan, Inc. (GUSI) in exploring community media, and the UP College of Mass Communication Foundation Inc. in post-campaign evaluation.
